The NGO “Red Acoge” (Host Network) presented the report “Inmigracionalismo 3” (“Immigrationalism 3”) at Comillas in which it analyzes the way immigration is reflected in the press
Throughout the past year, there has been an improvement in the way in which the press has treated themes related to the migrant population. Nevertheless, the report Inmigracionalismo 3. The Press: Agents for Integration and Social Cohesion, by the NGO “Red Acoge”, in which the current situation of the daily life of immigrants is analyzed, reveals that three of every ten pieces of news treating immigration and asylum contain mistakes. Moreover, “in 70% of the pieces of news analyzed this year there is a reference to the nationality or ethnic origin of the immigrants”, according to Manuel Sobrino, the person responsible for communications at “Red Acoge”, who is also in charge of verifying the factual nature and correcting reports. He states that some data do not add anything at all to the understanding of the piece of news.
