The much celebrated baritone Ruggero Raimondi received the University Medallion and promised to offer a free concert next year
The University offered a gala performance of its Concert for Solidarity, organized by the NGO Entreculturas, at which the pianist Patrizia Prati interpreted a selections of the “Nocturnes” by Chopin. The concert, which had more than 200 people in attendance in the Aula Magna (Main Auditorium), was also the setting to honor the Italian baritone Ruggero Raimondi, one of the most well-known opera singers in the world. The Rector, Julio L. Martínez SJ, presented the University Gold Medallion to him and praised his lifetime dedication to the art of the bel canto, in which he began at the age of 15.
The initiative, by the NGO Entreculturas –an organization for which Education in contexts of emergency is a priority– managed to collect around 3500 euros, which will be devoted entirely to the Frans van der Lugt Center (School), in the Lebanese city of Bourj Hammoud. Some 300 Syrian children there are taking an intensive learning course (Arabic, English, French, Sciences…), with the goal of integration into the Lebanese educational system.
