The report was drawn up by the University in collaboration with the Embassy of Ecuador and the Basque Platform on Immigration “Ikuspegi”
According to research carried out by the Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones (University Institute for Migrations Studies) at Comillas ICAI-ICADE (IUEM), the Ecuadorian immigrant population in Spain prefers not to return to its country of origin, even though their situation is quite precarious. The situation of this group and the research data, according to Juan Iglesias, a researcher at IUEM, can be extrapolated to other nationalities of Latin American immigrants, such as Peruvians, Colombians, Paraguayans and Bolivians.
The “Estudio sobre la población de origen ecuatoriano en España. Características, necesidades y expectativas en tiempos de crisis” (Study on the Ecuadorian Immigrant Population in Spain. Characteristics, Needs, and Expectations in Times of Crisis) was drawn up with the collaboration of the Basque Platform on Immigration “Ikuspegi”, at the University of the Basque Country, and the Embassy of Ecuador. The data shows that the Ecuadorian population has suffered greatly from the economic crisis.
